What's out

Party Dozen release 21 Bum Salute on Friday, November 6, 2026 via City Slang. The Terrorbird release calls it the fifth album from the Australian drum and saxophone duo of Kirsty Tickle (saxophone, vocals) and Jonathan Boulet (drums, loops, production). Apple Music lists the same date, with "℗ 2026 City Slang."

Per the release, the band "recorded, mixed and mastered 21 Bum Salute completely themselves," and the title is "named after a peculiar, larrikin ritual in Australia's arid Northern Territory." The release places the record "somewhere between free jazz and instrumental punk."

"It's like we just don't care anymore," Boulet said in a statement. "But in the best way."

"We're having more fun than we've ever had before," Tickle said. "This album is kind of putting a middle finger up and waving at someone with a smile at the same time. We're egging you on to have a good time."

The singles

The release names "Mad Rooter" as the lead single, and the band have shared official videos for "Full Powers", "Euro Stomper" and "Special Unit".

Party Dozen: "Full Powers" (official video)

"There are no lyrics in Tickle's wails on 21 Bum Salute," per the release. "It's whatever comes out in the moment," she said. "I've never had such a good time in the studio. This record was the most enjoyable out of any we've done."

"On this album we've got it down to the absolute best part of the idea for you," Tickle said. "We've trimmed the fat."

My read

Tickle sells this one on fun, and doing every stage of the record themselves keeps the joke and the craft in the same hands. For more from the heavier end of rock this fall, read KAZI on Blackwater Holylight's "Spades" video and Dethwish's RUBY.

Verdict: 21 Bum Salute comes from a band that says it is having the most fun of its run, and a run of shows that starts the night before release day.
