Blackwater Holylight's "Spades" Video: The Credits Behind the Poker Heist

What's out

Blackwater Holylight posted the official video for "Spades" to Suicide Squeeze Records' YouTube channel on Friday, October 30. The song is track six on Not Here Not Gone, the band's fourth full-length, which Suicide Squeeze put out on January 30, 2026. Per Suicide Squeeze's release, the video "follows a card game and heist gone off the rails."

Vocalist and guitarist Sunny Faris kept the pitch simple. Per Suicide Squeeze's release, she said: "This video was all for fun! We wanted to make a silly video with our friends and family to finish the year off with a project that felt freeing and creative for everyone." She calls it "a journey through an underground poker heist gone wrong!"

Behind the boards

The YouTube description prints the record's credits in full: "Recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios," "Mixed at Octopus Beak," "Produced by Sonny DiPerri and Blackwater Holylight" and "Mastered by Howie Weinberg." Apple Music's credits for "Spades" match. They list DiPerri as producer and mixing engineer, with Zach Capitti-Fenton as assistant mixing engineer and Felipe Almeida as assistant engineer.

Per the release, Sonic Ranch sits outside El Paso, Texas, and DiPerri's past work includes Narrow Head, DIIV and Emma Ruth Rundle. One more outside name is on the album. David Andrew Sitek (TV on the Radio, Run the Jewels, Solange) supplied the beat for the instrumental "Giraffe."

Apple lists five songwriters on "Spades": Faris, Mikayla Mayhew, Eliese Dorsay, Sarah McKenna and Camille Getz, who is also credited on violin.

Who made the video

The description credits Faris as writer and creative director. Jeremy Colegrove and Duncan Robertson co-directed, and Robertson doubled as director of photography. Pearblossom Pictures is the production company, and Jackson Beall produced. Getz shows up three times: as a songwriter, as the editor, and in the cast as "Vacay Couple Woman." Mayhew and Dorsay get a credit for "Vibe Control."

The sound, in the label's words

I'll let the release describe it. It files "Spades" next to "Bodies" as the album's "sludgy psychedelia," and says the record pairs "dense walls of shoegaze guitars" with "lighter-than-air synths."

On the road

The band supports Neurosis, billed in the release as "alternative metal legends," at Revolution Hall in Portland on November 28, Showbox SODO in Seattle on November 29 and The Wiltern in Los Angeles on January 2, 2027. They also play Mojave Experience Festival in Joshua Tree, March 19 to 21, 2027, per the video's tour list.

My read

"Spades" reads like a family project in the best sense. The people who wrote and played the song also cut the video and acted in it. On the studio side, DiPerri sharing the producer credit with the band tells you who steered the sound.
