What's out
K. Michelle released Jesus & Whiskey, her first full-length country album, on Friday, October 16, 2026. Apple Music lists nine songs under ℗ 2026 Real Outlawz Records, Inc. under exclusive license to This Is Hit, Inc. d/b/a BBR Music Group. Behind the boards
BBR's release says the album was "mainly produced by Kristian Bush." Apple Music's credits show what "mainly" means. Bush is the producer on seven of the nine songs, and an executive producer on all nine alongside K. Michelle and Gina Miller. Aaron "Dubba-AA" Lockhart and William "The Lottery" Mosley produced "Intro," and Jamie Moore produced the closer, "If It Ain't Broke," playing drums, bass and acoustic guitar on it himself.
Two more names share production credit. Jeff Balding co-produced "Jack Daniel's" with Bush and served as vocal producer on the title track. Ant Clemons and Scott M. Carter are listed as co-producers on "Anything (feat. Blush)."
On the Bush sessions, Apple credits a steady core: Travis McNabb on drums, Ted Pecchio on bass, Benji Shanks on guitar, Justin Schipper on steel guitar and Brandon Bush on Hammond organ, piano and synth. Bush himself plays acoustic guitar and mandolin. The two session names BBR highlights, guitarist Tom Bukovac and drummer Shannon Forrest, appear on "Jack Daniel's" in Apple's listing.
Sean Moffitt mixed most of the album, Justin Niebank mixed "Blame Tennessee" and "Jack Daniel's," and Nathan Dantzler mastered all nine songs with Harrison Tate assisting.
The writers
BBR names three co-writers up top: ERNEST (Jelly Roll, Post Malone), Ant Clemons (Beyoncé, SZA) and Jamie Moore (Morgan Wallen, Florida Georgia Line). The tracklist credits ERNEST, as Ernest Keith Smith, on "Blame Tennessee," "Jesus & Whiskey" and "Jack Daniel's." Clemons co-wrote "Anything (feat. Blush)," and Moore co-wrote "If It Ain't Broke." K. Michelle, credited under her legal name Kimberly Pate, writes on eight of the nine songs. The exception is "Damn Good Friend," credited to Justin Wilson, George Birge and Lalo Guzman.
Where the yodel comes from
Per the release, the Memphis-born singer was "raised in a household where Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston played alongside Country icons like The Judds and Lee Ann Womack." BBR calls "Yodel," the album's second track, "a wildly playful romp spotlighting the jaw-dropping yodeling skills that earned her a music scholarship to Florida A&M University."
Her move into country started well before this album. Apple dates "Jack Daniel's" to August 29, 2025, and the release says she played it for her CMA Fest debut at Nissan Stadium in 2025. The title track followed as a single on July 30, 2026.
"Jesus & Whiskey is one of the most personal albums I've ever made," K. Michelle said in a statement announcing the album's release. "It's a musical masterpiece, and I couldn't be more excited to finally share my contribution to the genre I grew up on and have always held so near and dear to my heart. This one means something different. I can't wait for you to hear it."
My read
The credits tell a clear story: a Nashville room built around one producer and one house band, with outside producers brought in for the bookends. Country keeps opening its doors to artists who came up somewhere else, from cieratherapper in Kentucky to K. Michelle. This one arrives with a full Music Row crew behind it.
