North Carolina’s own-Isaiah Carter, professionally known as ZayTheGoat and Empire’s fresh signee, steps onto the scene with a gritty sound and a story to tell. The state of North Carolina has been hot in the music scene for the past couple of years considering their savior, J. Cole and recent Charlotte superstar, DaBaby. With ZayTheGoat in the mix, he puts himself in the conversation on the top of the leaderboard and his name in the mix of rappers coming out of North Carolina.
The recent EP “Why Not Now” will be a stepping stone for ZayTheGoat as he makes his way into the industry. On the 5 track project, he goes through the motions of expressing his anger, hurt, taking risk, experiences with love and reflecting on losing love ones. This is displayed on the track “4TheRealNiggaz” where Zay talks about the death of his grandfather, the struggles of having a single mother, his friends switching up on him and other internal family issues. On tracks like “On My Mind” and “Prolific” he switches up and shows his versatility while talking about love, being a leader and not a follower and his anticipated fame approaching. He states “Music isn’t just about the sound or the people who can relate to it. It’s about the time when people need it the most, and it’s time for someone to do something new and genuine. Why not me? Why not now?”
