Toosii Taps In With KAZI Magazine!

Back in October 2020, Toosii graced our digital cover and now he’s back with more monumental music! Don’t believe me? Take a look for yourself here at KAZI Magazine as Toosii came through to chop it up with Minnee!

  • Hey Toosii! Thank you so much for taking the time out to speak with me on behalf of KAZI Magazine! We are excited to have you & want to congratulate you on Boys Don’t Cry! Let’s jump right into our interview. Bringing it back to the beginning, who is Toosii and where did it all begin?

Toosii is a young artist, you know aspiring to do great things. It all started in upstate New York as a young boy my brother used to rap. And honestly, I just wanted to be anything that my brother was. So you know, that’s how it all started for me.

  • Ok dope! While your brother was your inspiration into rap, What’s your creative process like? Do you put pen to pad or punch in and out?

I do a little bit of both. Sometimes I punch in sometimes I write. Recently, I’ve been writing a little bit more than punching just because the music has been feeling different and flowing out more now, then before

The Artistry

  • With that being said, how many songs would you say you cook up within a studio session?

“Oh if I’m in the studio say 8 hours, pstt I can push out like 10 plus songs. If I’m going to the studio and I go for like six hours sessions, the least amount of songs I might record is like four and that’s the least amount.”

  • Oh ok! A true natural and creative in the booth. How do you remain so creative?

Live life a little bit and watch and watch your surroundings you know your surroundings tell stories that you don’t seem to go through. You know, sometimes it’s not a story about what you go through. It’s about something somebody else is going through. Live life and watch your surroundings.

  • Who or what would you credit your musical sound and style to?

I would consider my musical sound to be like hip hop with a hint of R&B.

  • For newcomers getting familiar with you, which recorded of yours that’s already dropped would you put on for listeners to get a better understanding of who Toosii is?

I would definitely probably say my “Hey Now” record or “I can see that in our love”Love Is…” or even “Heartaches” to be honest.

  • Recently, you stepped away from social media a bit after the arrival of “Last Song” on YouTube. What are your thoughts or advice for other artists when it comes to social media, space and sanity?

Social media could be draining. So with it being draining, you know, sometimes you need to take a social media break. Even if it’s for a day even if it’s for two days, you know, whatever the case might be. Sometimes you got to step away from social media and take a break, because at the end of the day, life is still a reality outside of social media and people make social media a reality

Toosii Takes Fans Down Musical Lane

  • Surrounded by all of the success of your latest EP, please give us the in-depth significance and inspiration behind Boys Don’t Cry.

The inspiration behind it, you know, was just my son, my baby boy. I just had a son and he is about to be four months and in about two days. So like, you know, it was kind of like, man, like, I want my son to feel like he could be whatever it is you want to be. You know, I want to allow him to be vulnerable, and have emotions I want him to have feelings. I don’t want him to feel like he has to fall into the same light, or the same capacity that everybody else fell into. You know, the title just came from that. Allowing a lot.

Because our whole life as men we was taught not to be vulnerable. I want him to feel, and realize that it’s okay for him to be vulnerable. So it’s like one of the first things like jokingly that I had told him, You know, when he came out the womb, like, you know, hey, stop crying, boys don’t cry. It was kind of like, you know, man, like, our whole life, we really been taught that. And that’s kind of like was what sparked it.

  • How long did it take to create the 6-track EP from start to finish?

Hmm to create my EP, I think it took like maybe a week. I’ve just been happy to be home you know. I say it took me a week simply because like I would’ve taken less time if I went with the songs that I had, but I wanted to take a little bit more time to see what other songs we might have. So it took about a week to create that.

  • I have some personal faves including “Heartaches” “Butterfly” and “Love Is…” off your EP! For my next question I have to ask and I know this may be tricky, but as the artist which single(s) off the new project are personal favorites and why?

Honestly, to me I like all of them. But the reason that I like all of them is because they all got a different feel to them. You know each each song is not dedicated to just one audience. But if I had to pick, I’d probably say “Butterfly” and “Hey Now”

  • Backing the bangers, you recently did a live performance of the project. Please tell us more about that and what this project and performance meant to you.

Outside of a lot of rehearsing just staying on top everybody. Making sure everybody doing their job to make sure it could be perfect for the fans. Yeah, so it was fun though. It was a nice setting where we recorded it and then we streamed it live for the fans. So it was special.

What’s Next For Toosii In 2023?

  • Also, if I’m not mistaken you are gearing up to hit the road with Rod Wave on the Beautiful Mind Tour… can you tell us more about that as well?

Yes! We are on tour in less than 30 days! So it’s 28 dates and yeah I’m excited. This going to be the biggest tour I’ve ever been on. We talking about 15,000 to 20,000 people in these venues. And then it’s crazy because like, you know a lot of them is my fans and outside of a lot of them being my friends. It’s like we kind of got the same audience, he just got it at a bigger capacity. So yeah I’m really excited about that!

  • Excited to hear more about Toosii and all that you do and are, what’s next for you in 2022 going into 2023?

MORE MUSIC. MORE VIDEOS. JUST GOING TO KEEP WORKING!

  • Lastly, is there a message that you’d like to leave with fans?

Continue to stay consistent. You could be whatever you want be.
