‘Shiesty Season’ Is A Success For Pooh Shiesty

Memphis stalwart and upcoming star Pooh Shiesty debuted ‘Shiesty Season‘ recently. Gaining traction from popular singles “Back In Blood” ft. Lil Durk and “Twerksum” put high expectations on Pooh to deliver.

Not Perfect But Doesn’t Need To Be

While it’s not perfect, Pooh’s first major project is an overall success. With 17 tracks for fans to listen to, the first thing that grabbed my attention was Pooh’s brash confidence. The simplicity of bars is delivered so smoothly by him due to Pooh’s high self-esteem level.

This is not a mixtape to listen to if you’re expecting intricate wordplay. It was made to show the pure street culture Pooh Shiesty is from. That is what makes it a joy to listen to. Pooh doesn’t try too hard to force a flow; he allows each bar to come to him with relative ease.

Some might listen to ‘Shiesty Season’ and consider Pooh’s flows to be repetitive or lazy. That might be a fair critique dependent on the person’s taste in music, but if you’re a real advocate of southern hip hop like me, you’ll understand that’s far from the truth.

The real draw of Pooh’s latest release is the diverse amount of southern sounds are within the tracklist. From the aforementioned “Back In Blood,” “Master P” Ft. Tay Kieth, “Ugly” Ft Gucci Mane, “50 Shots,” “See Red,” and my personal favorite “Neighbors” Ft. Big 30; you see Pooh experimenting with different methods of deliveries and I love to hear it!

If I had any drawbacks about ‘Shiesty Season’ is that it might be too long. It’s not a strong listen-through I would normally like in a concise project. For an average music fan, it may start to bore them a tad bit. However, overall it’s a solid project that sets up Pooh Shiesty for a strong 2021.

Shiesty Season Final verdict: 8.3/10
