Autumn D is a North Carolina native powerhouse singer and songwriter. Her passion and drive are something to really take note of. Autumn D’s EP title “Autumn Time” is the perfect blend of inspiration and rhythm. There is a song for everybody on this project! Autumn D’s road to finding her true passion with music is unique yet very relatable at the same time. I had the great opportunity of chatting with Autumn D about her influences, background, and so much more down below!
Who is Autumn D as an artist?
Autumn D: I am a singer-songwriter and I am a performer. I love to perform and do choreography. I was raised in the church, so I feel like a lot of my music touches on that. I make inspirational and uplifting records, but also I have that side of me that talks about everyday life and the things that we go through like love and heartache.
Who are your musical influences?
Autumn D: I would definitely say that Whitney Houston is one of my biggest influences. And in terms of performing, I would have to say Bruno Mars, Beyonce, and Prince.

How long have you been taking music seriously?
Autumn D: I’ve been wanting to do music for a long time. People have always told me that it is not a secure career but look at the pandemic. People were getting laid off left and right. It made me realize that life is unpredictable and that’s when I went really hard.
How much creative control do you have in creating your music videos?
Autumn D: I am so happy that you like my videos because I have my master’s in film production. So when I think about a music video, I like to tell a story. I want to be able to really make sure that there is a storyline. My approach is very cinematic, I want them to look like a mini-movie.
What do you think about when it comes to social media and branding yourself as a musician?
Autumn D: During this pandemic, I understood just how great of a tool social media is. When the film industry shut down and everything shut down you still had Tik Tok, Instagram, and other platforms where you were able to sing and put yourself out there. For me, social media was a great marketing tool. But social media can also be like the bully that doesn’t leave you alone, once you get home you’re safe. But social media follows you home. It is all about how you use it.
Where did you find inspiration for the song “Marathon”?
Autumn D: Again it was inspired by the pandemic; “Marathon” jumped in my head because of Nipsey Hussle and hearing his saying the Marathon Continues. I was also thinking about my life and getting my master’s and as soon as my career should be taking off the pandemic happens. I thought that I was going to be able to have a career, it was so nerve-wrecking. So then I thought life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon so it’s not about how fast you are going, but how you get there. That was the inspiration behind that song.
What does the future look like for Autumn D?
Autumn D: I am just hoping that everyone will be able to hear my music. I want to do bigger shows, selling out tours in major arenas. That’s the dream to keep moving forward to reach that.
