One of the best ways to approach music production is to start with a part that would become a central melodic hook. This section will get people interested in listening (hence the name “hook!”), so it is crucial to nail it and make sure that the whole production highlights a significant melodic part, be it an incredible vocal or an instrumental hook.
Don’t panic: there is always a solution!
Many producers might end up getting overwhelmed when things aren’t going according to plan. However, it is essential to avoid panicking when making music! If things aren’t going according to your original plan, well…who cares? Follow the music, and let it flow wherever he wants to go. Sometimes, music is a little bit like running water, as in it will follow gravity and go wherever it can, even if you expect it to channel it in different ways.
Listen to other producers, and learn from them.
A good producer should always be tuned to other music to get a good idea of what’s going on. Listening to other artists and producers is always a good idea to grow artistically and technically. It might be tempting to follow other people’s presets, rules, and standard approaches as a music producer. However, it is also essential to go out on a limb and develop your style. Don’t get too caught up in following rules or doing things just because you read on an audio blog that that’s what you’re supposed to do.
