Chicago has been on a hot streak with its latest releases from artists like Vic Mensa, G Herbo, and Lil Durk to name a few. Up next is lyrical emcee Mick Jenkins, who went on a hiatus not too long ago. The Circus is Mick’s first full-length release since 2018 and arrives via Cinematic Music Group. Moreover, the 7-track effort contains a sole feature from EarthGang, who the Chicago rapper will join on tour later this year.
The Circus is preceded by “Carefree,” a visual-accompanied single that dropped days ahead of the project. Production is put together by the likes of Hit-Boy, IAmNobodi, and many more. Furthermore, this release serves as a follow-up to Jenkin’s 2018 album Pieces of a Man. Standout cuts on this extended play include the opening track “Same Ol” and “The Light.”
Previously, Mick Jenkins made an appearance on KAYTRANADA‘s album, contributing to “Gray Area.” Elsewhere, he dropped a loosie to hold fans over titled “Percy,” which subtly references the 2010 film Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief. Moreover, Jenkins treated fans to a notable verse on Pivot Gang‘s 2019 compilation album. Hopefully this forthcoming year brings more music from the Chicago emcee. Check out his EP, The Circus, below.
