One of the most exciting rappers right now, Khalif Bryant, shows another side to his versatility with “U&I”. The sweet nature of the song is complemented by well-placed harmonies that highlight Khalif’s melodic rap style. Khalif displays his ever-expanding catalog, demonstrating through “U&I” that he is more than a one-trick pony. We see a vulnerable side to Khalif on the addictive track as he accepts responsibility for his role in previous relationships that have failed.
In doing so, he creates music that resonate with fans that enjoy the sounds of Khi Infinite, Kris Stasse, Giveon, Aminé, Smino, DRAM and GoldLink. When reflecting on the inspiration behind his new single, he says:
“Regret and reflection, mostly! I was looking back on past relationships and it just wasn’t sitting right with me so I wanted to create an olive branch as well as admit fault. I was at a point where the emotion was all too consuming and it had to go SOMEWHERE. Around the same time I felt the urge to be more sincere as an artist.. To drop the wall down so we can really sit here, relate and help each other with what we feel. Plus I‘ve always really wanted to write a “ballad” so I put as much emotion and attention as I physically could and I think it turned out pretty well!”

The self-proclaimed “uglyprettyboi,” from Virginia Beach is rising out the city with a distinct sound. Using elements from the modern rap scene, his music stays true to R&B traditions with his romantic writing. While also speaking to larger truths about life and his coming of age. His lyrics read confessional and honest. He is equally at ease displaying bravado as he is admitting fault, making Khalif an artist to watch. His music embodies the erratic energy of a young man. Thanks to a sharp ear for production and the assistance of a talented group of fellow performers. For now, be sure to get familiar with this rising star!
