Non-profit organization, Hoodies For The Homeless and Hip-Hop label Mass Appeal come together with rising star, Dave East, hip hop’s most enigmatic figure Jay Electronica and New Jersey rapper 070 Phi to release their first-ever collaboration, “No Hoodie (Nothin’ To Lose).”
On “No Hoodie,” the trio reflects on not having much and the feelings that accompanied them through those frantic times. Both Jay Electronica & Dave East have both experienced being homeless before and both open up about it on the track:
“I’m scared of the winter/ New York gets colder than cold/ Not to mention, I do not own a coat. – Dave East.
“Politics is for the politicians / Full meltdown in this melting pot, while I roam the block with no pot to piss in.” – Jay Electronica.
Hoodies For The Homeless is a cultural movement using music and entertainment to sharpen the collective perspective on these unseen issues. In the U.S. alone, close to 554,000 men, women, and children experience homelessness. In NYC, the estimate is 78,000. That’s 1 out of every 121 people — the highest level seen since the Great Depression.
Starting in 2016, the organization partnered with The New York Giants for their first annual day at Met Life Stadium. Since then, they’ve been a driving force behind making their events possible. Moreover, the Giants were instrumental in helping cover costs to bring this track to life.
Using their respective platforms, East, Electronica, and Phi inspire fans to bring hoodies for donation. Check out the track below.
