CoCo Benson Brings “Majesty” To Music

Coco Benson, the granddaughter of Nigerian highlife legend Bobby Benson, was born in Michigan, raised in Zurich, and now resides in Atlanta. In 2014, she burst onto the African music scene with a string of hit singles including ‘They Call Me Coco’. In addition, she did a modern rendition of her grandfather’s breakthrough hit “Taxi Driver”. Which put her on the map as one to watch across the continent.

Shortly after, she took a break from music in 2015 to focus on her family. Now, with the start of a new decade, she is returning to her first love and reclaiming the spotlight.

Presenting Your Majesty

The Swiss-Nigerian songstress is back with her thrilling new single titled, “Majesty”.  Coco taps Nigerian powerhouse producer, SHIZZI for the hot new release. Shizzi has a reputable resume as he has worked with Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Meek Mill, Wiz Kid, Davado, and more.

Coco’s trendy track was penned by herself, Shizzi, and Parker Ighile who has worked with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Arianna Grande just to name a few. The three collaborated on the infectious summer-ready afro house track to heat up the summer.

Additionally, the long-awaited comeback single from Coco Benson is taken from her upcoming debut EP, executive produced by Shizzi, titled Here We Go Again. With Shizzi providing the rich afro house musical backdrop, Coco Benson’s ‘Majesty’ is a brilliant return to form. It’s also the ideal dancefloor filler and soundtrack for the approaching sun-kissed summer and festival season.

“Majesty” Inspiration

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Majesty’, Coco Benson says, “Women do it all, women are the backbone to a lot of great things, and this track pays homage to women and speaks to empowering women. I wanted to create a song that every woman or girl could relate to. We are all ‘Majesty’ to someone and it’s something to embrace. This track has my two favourite elements – the house and soulful music vibes, and once Shizzi added his magic finger touches and some amapiano sensibilities, we knew this song would turn out to be a timeless record”.

Coco worked in Accra, Ghana, with visual director Mickey Johnson, creative director Ganyo Bi Dindin, and choreographer Nela to bring the track to life. Lastly, the royal-themed accompanying music video showcases the majesty of women, and highlights how women should be treated as Queens. Stay tuned here at KAZI Magazine for more on Coco Benson!
