Chrystel Levels Up On Her Debut EP ‘Prey’

Chrystel is a bilingual singer-songwriter from Salt Lake City, Utah. Once she was ready to chase her dreams, she took her talents to Atlanta, Georgia. Following a string of well-received features and collaborations in 2020, Chrystel is ready to tell more of her own story. She looks to do this with her debut EP, Prey. Prey is a cohesive 3 song project; a double entendre meant to bring you to your knees and stir up the reckoning that gives you wings. The project opens with the melancholy and uptempo Thunder (prod. LMBSKN) written at the beginning of quarantine in 2020. Lyrics like “you know my lightning is different, I know you see something in it,” and “we get one chance in this life, don’t know why” offer a hand to a world that is weathering the same storm.

Hot Star (prod. MØW Music) is the middle gem that proceeds as a self-assured and assertive summer anthem not only exuding confidence but loyalty. Good Thang closes the EP as the record meant for someone else. Co-Written by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, Vincent Berry, the record took on a life of its own as Chrystel recorded the reference track in the studio. Encouraged by the track’s producers to put it out as is, the song is a true testament to Prey; betting on yourself.
