Mississippi Icon, Big K.R.I.T. is back with his newest release, K.R.I.T. IZ HERE, a sequel to his highly acclaimed 2010 tape, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. Simultaneously boisterously confident, yet discreetly aware, the Meridian native crafted a 20 track origin story that appears to have come full circle. Alongside a soulfully energetic K.R.I.T., the album boasts of illustrious features from collaborators such as J.Cole, Weezy, Saweetie and more. Throughout K.R.I.T. IZ HERE, it becomes very apparent that K.R.I.T. is donning his crown.

In order to fully grasp Big K.R.I.T.’s vision and music, the audience must first understand his upbringing. This birth began in Meridian, Mississippi, a flatland city with a per capita income of less than $16,000 a year. Coinciding with enduring poverty, the state itself has a tarnished, bigoted history with the treatment of its largely African American population. Even in 2019, the segregation politics of the state are still taking form. Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde Smith even made it clear to her followers that she would in fact, “attend a public lynching.”
While many have an idea of what Mississippi is, K.R.I.T. and fellow residents like myself want to make it abundantly clear – you don’t.

K.R.I.T. IZ HERE explains these complexities, and more importantly asserts the confidence that anyone can make it out of their environment, no matter the circumstance. Fiercely resolute, Krit is determined to make a better way for those who follow.
