Big K.R.I.T. is undervalued and unappreciated. He stays true to the sound of the south, despite the changing landscape in music, and a penchant for RAPPING rapping helped him reach a total of 3, 823 unique words used across his body of work since his debut. Earlier this week, he dropped his newest single, “Addiction” which features Lil Wayne & Saweetie alongside the tracklist for his 4th studio album, K.R.I.T. Iz Here, due July 12th.
Positioned as a sequel to K.R.I.T Wuz Here which turns 10 next year, Big K.R.I.T. takes a step toward legendary status with the upcoming project. “I took the road less traveled in my career,” he said in a Instagram post Tuesday morning. “I have sold CDs out of trunk. I have dropped mixtapes, praying that anyone would listen. I’ve been signed to a major with hopes and dreams tha didn’t come true. Trough it all, I’ve had…support from the people who truly listened to my music and believed in the movement.”
The project follows K.R.I.T.’s 2017 dual LP 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time and last years compilation, TDT, making KIH his first studio release in two years. It’s laden with carefully curated collaborations (try saying that 5x fast), but despite, Big K.R.I.T. never fails to stand firmly on his own. 2019 just might be the point break he deserves.
