Jordan Sand's Baby Ghost: The Credits, Plus Her Dublab Guest Mix

What's out
Jordan Sand's debut LP Baby Ghost is out via the Swiss label Hallow Ground. Bandcamp and Apple Music both date it October 2, 2026. Terrorbird's release calls it "a spectral song cycle set within the transition space between life and death," and says the title comes from a 1972 children's book.
Per the release, Sand grew up playing folk and church music, trained classically and freelanced in New York before "an isolated move to Trondheim, Norway in 2020." The release names Nat Baldwin, Joëlle Léandre, Christian Wallumrød, Kate Bush, Arthur Russell and Joni Mitchell among her touchstones.
Behind the boards
The release says the album was recorded in single takes, freely improvised, with no overdubs or edits. The Bandcamp credits fill in the rest: "Improvised live at Tonal Park in Takoma Park, MD." Sand performed and produced it. Don Godwin recorded it, Kyrre Laastad mixed it, and Lawrence English mastered it, with additional production by Nate Scheible. Graphic design is by Vojd.
The "A Flat Zero" video
The closer, "A Flat Zero," has a video made with video artist Courtney Rile. Per the release, it "features Sand lying flat, doused in twinkling light, and bowing the lowest string of the bass, detuned to subharmonic frequencies." It began as part of Rile's commissioned series for Light Work's Urban Video Project in 2025, responding to Nam June Paik and Charlotte Moorman's "TV Bed" at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, and was projected onto the Everson's facade in summer 2025.
Jordan Sand: "A Flat Zero" (Official Music Video)
"'A Flat Zero' concludes the journey of the album with a subterranean drone, elongating one of the lowest tones that can be played on the double bass," Sand said in a statement. "The title's double meaning dually refers to both the pitch of the track (Ab 0) and the reading of a heart monitor: We've reached flat zero."
The Dublab mix and live dates
Sand's guest session for Dublab, per the release, "highlights adventurous string tracks and similar textures from reeds, pipes, tapes."
The release lists these shows:
- November 6: London, Eternal Series
- November 19: Aveiro, Portugal, VIC Aveiro Arts House
- November 20: Porto, Portugal, Sonoscopia
- November 21: Lisbon, Portugal, Nariz Entupido

My read
This is a record where the credits tell you how it was made: Sand on bass, improvised live at Tonal Park in Maryland in single takes, then a mixer and a mastering engineer shaping takes nobody edited. For more improvised music on KAZI, read about MANAS, and for a very different jazz credits sheet, Lauren Daigle and Preservation Hall Jazz Band's Christmas songs.
