Gunna Brings Coco Gauff Into the "pop it" Trailer

Gunna

Gunna announced "pop it" on Monday. On Wednesday he showed us who's in it: Coco Gauff.

Gunna put the official trailer for "pop it" on YouTube at 4:24 PM ET on Wednesday, then shared the 41-second clip on X three minutes later with the caption "Wunna x Coco 🔥pop it! 10-9-26!" XXL says Gunna "links up with tennis star Coco Gauff" in the teaser. Complex goes a step further and says he "plays tennis with Coco Gauff" in it.

The guest is the news

The song itself isn't new information. BroadwayWorld reported the Friday, October 9 date back on October 5, when he shared the artwork. The Needle Drop says that first preview had him doing push-ups on the back of a drop-top convertible. Wednesday's clip added the name people will actually talk about.

Opening the Splurge era

The Needle Drop frames "pop it" as a first look at Splurge, his next album, and notes there's no release date yet. Gunna told Forbes what the title means, as quoted by The Needle Drop: "I want to introduce that, which is Splurge. This upper-echelon artist who's gravitated to another level."

My read: putting a pro athlete in the trailer is a smart way to say that out loud. It also fits the brand work he's been doing outside the booth. BroadwayWorld points to his Peloton work, his role as creative director at Under Armour and the WUNNA Run 5K. So Gauff isn't a random celebrity pick. She's on brand.

For the Atlanta veteran, this is a different weight class from the newer city names we've been tracking, like Karrahbooo and Che.

"pop it" is out now.
