JuS Makes A Statement On “Hands Up”

JuS

JuS returns with his newest single, “Hands Up,” a dynamic and empowering record highlighting the Black community’s tumultuous relationship and police violence. With its memorable flow and quotable lyrics, JuS and @producermaine_ link up to give us a conscious record while still having that element that makes your head knock. The new visual features choreography from Brandon Couloute. Ashley Morgan, Dajah Jackson, Faith Lee, Karilyn Villarini, and Shani Rodriguez shine as dancers in the video. JuS and director OpeVisualz teamed up to curate a raw and original vision.

They chose to directly reflect a traffic stop that time after time we have seen escalate and end in an unfortunate loss of life. While wanting to show these poignant scenes, JuS did not want to bombard the viewers with graphic imagery. Instead, he wanted to celebrate and empower those in his community deliberately. With the help of choreographer Brandon Couloute, he intentionally showed women’s talent in his video.

“CWYC envisions a courageous community where young people lead social change. Dismantling systemic racism and building a community of equity and radical love!”

JuS Being Philanthropic

JuS has also partnered with a Connecticut-based non-profit organization, CityWide Youth Coalition. This helps push their mission of building a courageous community where young people lead social change. This builds power through education, leadership development, and anti-racist community organizing. Through grassroots organizers, they achieved free breakfast and lunch programs. They fed kids during summer break and create a sustainable partnership with Yale University’s Consultation Center to establish the Youth Development and Training Center. Moving forward, their goals include building power around removing school resource officers from New Haven schools and defunding the police. In closing, it is an impressive collaboration, to say the least.
