After anonymously releasing tracks, “I Hate You,” “Joni”, and “Nightbird” via Soundcloud. SZA returns with her newest song, “The Anonymous Ones” from the soundtrack to the film adaption of Dear Evan Hansen.
Throughout the song, she lyricizes hopes of recognition and the idea of not feeling alone as a wondrous idea. Similar to the film’s coming-of-age themes about social anxiety, self-discovery, and rumination. As well as, the issues of feeling alone in a full room; having contemplative thoughts of hiding thoughts and feelings due to fear.

Overall, the message of the songs depicts the hardships of those who suffer from mental health disorders and conditions. Similar to the film’s plot, the issue of feeling accepted is displayed by SZA’s harmonious vocals that give the listener comfort to relate with.
The track serves as a dual pack which includes the film version, by Amandla Stenberg, who stars in the film along with Ben Platt, Amy Adams, and Julianne Moore. The soundtrack also features covers from Sam Smith, Summer Walker, Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Finneas, and Tori Kelly.
