Buddy gained attention after his track, “Black”, featuring ASAP Ferg became one of the leading singles off his debut album, Harlan & Alondra in 2018. Today, the Compton rapper releases the track’s sequel titled “Black 2.” There are no features this time around, but the photo of a young Malcolm X holding a gun looking out a window as the cover lets us know that he has a lot to talk about in a little over two minutes.
In the midst of recent protests due to the unjust murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many more; Buddy joins other artists that are using their platforms to speak on anti-blackness and police brutality.
“Black” unapologetically celebrated the culture, where “Black 2” highlights the hypocrisy of how the world loves to take part in Black culture, but not advocate for its people. The rapper highlights the appropriation of Black hairstyles, music, and fashion from those outside of the community and follows it with the catchy line; “Everybody wants to be Black, Don’t nobody wanna be a nigga.”
