Kevin Michael is finally back with new music! The single “Sidenixxa” is now available to stream and download on SoundCloud. Last Thursday he took to Twitter to announce that he’s finally ready to share his most intimate self with the rest of the world, again.
“Before I said anything, I had to figure out what I wanted to say,” he wrote in a tweet a few days prior to the release. “It took longer than anticipated, but that’s just life sometimes I guess? Throughout it all, you continued to encourage & motivate me — I love you for that.”
Kevin Michael first made waves back in 2007 with his self-titled debut studio album. The project explored the diverse kinds of love as a thesis on social and political equality. The hit single from the project, “It Don’t Make Any Difference To Me”, flaunted Michael’s brilliant vocals, featured music legend Wyclef Jean, and shared Michael’s experience with race as a young, biracial man.
After being dropped by his label in 2010, he returned to music in 2013 with the 40-minute one-track album, brainwa$h. The R&B/Soul artist continued to lay low on social media and in 2015, he crept back into our speakers with his Pop study, Dirty Little Fuck. Since then, he seemed to step back out of the spotlight, which has now endearingly become his Modus Operandi.
Don’t mistake his absence for a lack of movement, however. He stays busy as a songwriter (he co-penned Luke James’ 2018 single, “These Arms”) and manages a prominent makeup artist behind the scenes. Hopefully, he won’t make us wait two years for his next project. With this new release, we’re looking forward to hearing more from Kevin Michael in 2019.
