Kenny Mason Reflects with “Storm”

Atlanta’s Kenny Mason has had a busy first half of 2020, including his April release of Angelic Hoodrat, and 4 music videos to accompany the project. If you thought his songwriting hand tired from such a strong, calculated rollout, you’d be wrong.

Kenny premiered his newest track “Storm” on Youtube and Audiomack on July 7th. The cover art is a photograph of Kenny toying with his new puppy named Storm. Another dog of his, Jetta, appeared in his “Hit” music video, which has amassed nearly 3 million views to date. Barking audio thematically runs through Angelic Hoodrat’s tracklist and was part of its promotion campaign upon release. It’s clear by now that Kenny treasures his close relationships with his dogs.

The canine motif stays alive with “Storm.” Starting with the bars “I’m a sly pup/ I know where to find luck,” Mason effortlessly weaves syllables between piano notes and relaxed drums, similar to those of “Firestarter” on the album. He reflects on the process of finding one’s way in this often crazy world but maintains an unwavering intonation that inspires his listeners to keep their heads up. Kenny Mason has already established himself as a leader. “Storm” kindly reminds us to follow him.
