“Headcrack” is an example of discovering new music through common musical interests. The single is by two New York artists Jesse Gibson and Jorden. Sinister and gaudy, I get a feeling of high octane action movie with every play.
Jesse spits his baritone flow over sinister, dark production from Maserati Boves; as he contextualizes his gloomy, rock-star lifestyle. The cover is a play on Kendrick’s iconic Section.80 cover, but with Gibson’s own unique flair.
The melodic vocals blends in well with the unquiet beat. It’s quite unlike anything I heard before; and I mean that in a good way.
A mashup of genres, Jesse truly wears his influences on his sleeve, while ultimately exploring the paradoxical feelings we encounter in the realms of our human experience, life and love.
This track marks the beginning of Gibson’s 2021 campaign; which promises new video releases and a new full-length in the Summer. So to me, it’s a good start and a new mix to your daily rotation if you’re looking for new artists.
Whip out your headphones and watch your mind “Headcrack” to a catchy new tune! Be careful, it’s addicting!
