Canon Speaks on Racism in New Song “Evil”

Rapper Canon of Reflection Music Group,  released his new single “Evil” this week speaking to the disparities and violence faced by Black Americans daily. The track could not have come at a more perfect time with the topics of systemic racism and police brutality at the forefront surrounding the unfathomable murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and many others. “Evil” begins with the striking chant “Hands up, don’t shoot” widely known across the country and goes on to question the evils this country has displayed toward Black people since the beginning.

The song attests to the murders committed by those who are supposed to serve and protect us all. We are tired, as Canon conveys constantly. “You do not get to tell me how to feel/ when all reality you do not respect me” holds truthful of the song’s overall message.
