‘Toxic EP’ takes us on a journey into MannyJR.’s mind. Each track tells an intricate story about love, life, and navigating his emotions as a man. Each track has its own sound and takes the listener into a different world and a different side of MannyJR. The first track off the EP is “Toxic (Intro)” which is a slow R&B beat with a smooth lyrical flow laid over it. “Toxic (Intro)” showcases the versatility of MannyJR and introduces listeners to his unique sound which transforms throughout the rest of the EP.
The second track “Tonight” is a laid back pure R&B track. It has a classic sound that combines traditional R&B with a bit of more uptempo trap soul elements. The lyrics of “Tonight” tell a complicated love story and the chase that comes with dating and courtship in 2020. “Tonight” highlights MannyJR’s singing talents along with his ability to switch up his flow. He seamlessly switches from singing to rapping mid-verse and shows that he is a force to be reckoned with as an up and coming artist.
“Distractions” captures the anger that comes with heartache and dealing with when things go wrong in a relationship. The tone of “Distractions” is much more aggressive lyrically and flow wise. Towards the end of the track MannyJR. switches into singing once again, highlighting the vulnerability that comes with being heartbroken. The song perfectly captures the phase people go through after a breakup when they put on an aggressive front to distract themselves from feeling.
MannyJR. is set to take the throne for the Trap Soul genre.
