City Girls Prove They Are Here To Stay With ‘City On Lock’

City Girls come back hard with their new album City on Lock. Anyone who grew up listening to physical copies of mixtapes sold outside on the streets of New York and many other cities across the country will have respect for the sound City Girls bring to this album. Gritty, hard, lyrical content with the trademark City Girls bounce flow on every track; the 305 legends are proving they are much more than twerk queens or one-hit wonders.

‘City On Lock’ is the third album from the QC Queens. The Miami natives who busted on the scene in 2018 with the summer hit “Twerk” featuring Cardi B. Since then, and the group has turned up on many features. They have also pushed out many hit singles. With this album, it is clear the City Girls want to prove they have longevity within this industry.

“Enough/Better”, the first track on ‘City on Lock’ demonstrates freestyle sounding flows with no hook and all bars. This song along pushes the duo into the category of being serious rappers and much more than viral sensations. The track is triumphant and celebratory, acknowledging JT’s release from prison, pregnancy, and return to rap.

The first single off ‘City On Lock’ is “Jobs”. It is fun and upbeat and a classic Miami style club track. “Jobs” has a slow, sexy 808 baseline and cuts out at perfect moments to highlight the clever, confident lyrics. As you move through the Album you see proof off City Girls growth through their features. Since their last album, they have been able to secure features with Yo Gotti, Doja Cat, Lil Durk, and Lil Baby.

“City on Lock” featuring Lil Durk is one of the most impressive tracks on the record. Yung Miami shows she has the lyrical skill to hold her own with a heavy hitter like Durk. The same is true for the track “Flewed Out” featuring Lil Baby. JT and Miami’s verses have a bounce-flow and creative bars that are Instagram caption worthy.
