Seven years ago, EROCKFOR [pronounced eh-ROCK-for] returned home seven years ago to find another lady in her marital bed. The Montreal songstress fled to Seoul, South Korea, shortly after to flee her abusive and now unfaithful marriage.
EROCKFOR CHANNELS HER INNER ‘PHOENIX’
It wasn’t until last year, in the midst of the global pandemic, that she told her story in a Medium article that quickly went viral. Her debut album PHOENIX, due out in October 2021, digs deeper into the grief and betrayal of that experience. As well as the healing and rebirth that has occurred since.
Last month, in her “I Thought You Loved Me” we saw the Canadian Cameroonian native revisit that heart-wrenching moment of betrayal. Erockfor’s new track “I Don’t Want You Back” is the second offering from her impending debut album.
THE RISE OF THE PHOENIX AND ITS INSPIRATION
In contrast, Erockfor reclaims her dignity in the powerful “I Don’t Want You Back,” recorded by LA-based electronic music artist Blaire Michael. It shows her dedication to moving ahead from what was a toxic and horrific relationship. Speaking about the inspiration behind her new ‘I Don’t Want You Back’ single, Erockfor says…
“I find that ‘exes always come back’ is a common refrain, but more often than not, we shouldn’t take them back. This song is the next step in my evolution, so to speak. I realized I deserved better and wanted to look ahead without taking steps back. I sing, ‘once I’m gone, I’m past tense’ as my commitment to moving forward. I’m hoping that it becomes a summer anthem”, before adding, “Play this when your ex calls you wanting to get back together. Some things should remain in the past.”
Erockfor has returned to her hometown of Montreal after spending six years in Seoul. She has been working on her debut album, which explores her journey from the events that drove her to Korea to where she is now. Due lays out her experiences over a genre-bending fusion of sonic beds ranging from jazz and pop to soul, afrobeats, and house music.
Her creative outlets extend beyond music. The Canadian singer is also revered as a burlesque performer, actress, and published poet. She has a distinctive voice that has drawn comparisons to Cyndi Lauper, Macy Gray, and Amy Winehouse. Leading up to her highly anticipated debut album, Phoenix, set to be released in October 2021, she will be dropping off a new single every month until then.
