Going Global: Bino Rideaux

For several decades, Los Angeles has served as a powerhouse for established acts from the likes of Dom Kennedy and Casey Veggies to both emerging artists and newcomers who set the streets ablaze. Bino Rideaux, raised in South Central, arises as one of the West Coast’s most exciting new talents. For many, he’s known for his 2017 joint project with Nipsey Hussle titled No Pressure. For others, it’s his 2016 debut Le Garcon, which features several of LA’s budding talents. Either way, Bino lives up to the hype and his versatility sets him apart from many nonetheless. “If you want to vibe, just slap my music. It’s all based on emotions,” Bino states.

“I grew up kind of family-oriented and in a Louisiana household in the middle of LA,” Bino recalls. Ever since childhood, the lure of the streets as well as hip-hop helped him become the well-respected man and rapper he is today. “I been rapping since third grade, I was just fucking around,” he states. Soon enough, after high school, Bino began turning his passion into a career worth millions. His catalog holds hit records like “Bozo” and “Bacc Tracc” to name a few. “I got serious after high school, started stepping into studios and really tryna make something out of this shit.”

On top of propelling to new heights through his rap career, Bino also balances the experience of fatherhood. He cites daughter, Victory, as one of his biggest motivations to continue carving his own lane. “That’s really what woke my grind up, you grinding for somebody else at that point,” he states. “It’s a different type of motivation so I tapped into my inner beast when I found out my daughter was on the way.”

Amongst Bino’s list of frequent collaborators is emerging producer and rapper Blxst. “I first heard him from Kalan.FrFr as a producer when he started sending me beats,” he recalls. Since then, the two have put out countless music together including 2019’s Sixtape. “One day he sent me a record with him singing on him and ever since then we’ve been rocking.” Moreover, Bino goes on to talk about other bubbling rappers who are leading LA’s sound, naming Roddy Ricch, BlueBucksClan, and Azyah as well as many others.

After countless collaborative efforts with other artists, Bino Rideaux dropped off his much-awaited project, Outside. The 15-track offering boasts features from Mozzy, Ty Dolla $ign, and Fredo Bang to name a few. “It’s a long time coming, a lot of those songs are a year or two old so it’s a relieving feeling,” Bino states. Furthermore, he goes on to express the eagerness to drop his forthcoming label debut album. Amongst standout cuts like “100 XTRAS” and “BRAND NEW,” Bino says his favorite record off the project is “MISMATCH,” which runs just under two minutes. “That’s right after I left the Def Jam office in New York, it was just a vibe.”

With Bino’s project in the rearview, he’s proven to quite an impressive artist all around. He continues to gear up for his forthcoming album and mentions having goals outside of music. “Creatively, I fuck with fashion and shit like that. I’m trying to get in some movies here and there, but I’m taking it one day at a time.”
