There are just some people that have the ‘IT Factor’. From the first time you see Virginia songstress Evoni, you can tell that she is a star. In a world where everyone wants to be famous, there are some people who do not have to try. The American singer embodies the grace of an Alana Baraz & Lana Del Rey combined with the appeal that can only be rivaled by Rihanna. The urban pop star reaches deep inside her soul to find content for her introspective yet relatable tracks.
Evoni’s first single “LEVI” has amassed over 1 million streams and only further thrust her into the bright spotlight that Atlanta’s music scene has to offer. She has since locked herself in the studio only coming out to record covers for her vast social media following. I had a chance to connect with her and ask a couple of questions about her career so far and her plans for the rest of 2019.
Check out our dope conversation below.
AHMAD: Tell us who Evoni is?
EVONI: Evoni is a soul searcher. She dives deep into everything she does, especially creatively. I aspire to learn how to become who my soul knows I am. I speak through my music, and I also learn who I am through my music. I write, but I freestyle as well, and when I listen back to what I sang, I get emotional because I learn what made me feel a certain way and when by merely hearing what I wrote. She’s a star in my eyes, that’s why I’ll never give up on her, in me in other words.
AHMAD: ATL is home to many of the game’s top artist, what is it like creating there?
EVONI: Ha, it is what it is. Atl has so much damn talent it makes no sense. I love how many black artists are represented here, everyone’s in their own lane making their own ways and just pushing. That shits so fye to me. It’s dope creating here, as long as you’re in the right environment. It’s a lot of different vibes out here so, just gotta latch on to the right ones. Feel me.
AHMAD: What was it like growing up with 3 other siblings?
EVONI: Well, that’s easy lol, we all have different moms we never lived together. Those are my babies, though.
Women are at the top of the game right now, who are some of your favorites? Damn skippy! Arianaaaaa man, Ariana Grande for sure. Love love love her and Rihanna. Those are baes
AHMAD: If this is someone’s introduction to you, what song would you tell them to listen to first?
EVONI: Hmmm it depends, I would say sad me – Worst Luck x 6lack and happy me – Golden x Jill Scott!
AHMAD: Your latest single “Up” is fire, what are your plans for the rest of 2019?
EVONI: Omg thank you thank you!! Honestly, apply pressure, man. I’m not letting up; I’ve got things planned and just waiting for the higher Gods to allow me to show the world the purpose it gave me. Music, merch, photoshoots, videos, shows all that. It’s finally coming to the light!
