Royce Da 5’9, The Soulful Veteran of Hip Hop

Royce

Royce Da 5’9 was one of the pioneers of the Detroit rap scene along with Eminem, Big Sean, J Dilla, and more! Detroit itself has been putting out new acts making a mark around the world including Sada Baby, Kash Doll, Babyface Ray, Que 9, and other amazing acts. Looking back at his youngers days in Slaughterhouse and with Eminem, Royce is happy to see his city’s music scene grow.

“It’s dope to see the work artist like Marshall and myself put in pay off with new acts from Detroit,” he said. “I’ve known about the sounds of the city for years. Now seeing people from all walks of life showing us love is incredible.”

“For years, the sounds that were underground to Detroit was not getting the love that they deserved. Now I can wake up any day and see a new young artist from the city get put on! AMAZING!”

Royce Da 5’9

In my eyes this is what keeps Royce relevant and always in my opinion, a underrated GOAT. Wise, cunning, and outspoken about multiple society issues make Royce Da 5’9 more than music but a role model. During the pandemic the injustices committed against black people were highlighted even more; and Royce was adamant to do his part to help change.

Community Royce helps to heal minds

His efforts were with his formation of the Ryan Montgomery Foundation. According to the official press release, “The Ryan Montgomery Foundation’s mission is to empower underprivileged communities through advocacy, education, and personal enrichment by implementing sustainable community programs that give individuals and families access to resources and opportunities needed to achieve their fullest potential.”

In simpler terms, Royce wanted to create a safe space for black people and other people going through struggles. Outstanding to see the growth from 5’9 in creating impactful movements that help your every day person. Royce looks at it as his duty.

“Being from a city that had it’s history of criminal acts and corrupt police acts against black people, I wanted to create something it gives us room to vent. From COVID to police brutality and other things, Black people are always at discomfort with their mental. Stress can age and wear a person faster than what their lifespan is. So therefore, with the foundation, I want it to be a community effort to heals our minds. Once the mind is good the rest of your body will follow suit.”

Recent Ventures from Da 5’9

Experimenting on the production side of music, Royce is working daily to become a more focused and well rounded emcee. Everybody knows his punchlines are potent but his beat making is matching his lyrical skill.

The Allegory, which he released last year was actually entirely produced by Royce himself. With notable features on The Allegory such as Benny The Butcher, Vince Staples, and more, it was easy to see why it was well received by critics and fans last year. It even earned a GRAMMY nomination.

What wasn’t expected was him producing and at a √©lite level at that. It’s a testimony to Royce’s mindset to always elevate at his craft. This year, he is taking those behind the board talents in a epic collaboration with Tracklib.

The journey I’ve been on musically is one of a kind. To be considered elite at both the art of rapping and producing is humbling! However, I’m still practicing day by day to ensure that my skills don’t fall off but grow!
