Sukihana: Hip-Hop’s Raunchy Rap Queen

Women have undeniably taken control of the hip-hop industry by storm, outpacing several of their male counterparts. This past year, we’ve watched acts like Megan Thee Stallion and Mulatto skyrocket into top-tier artists. On that same route to commercial success, Atlanta rapper and television star Sukihana wears her crown unapologetically. “I worked the hardest out of everyone,” she recites.

Influenced by the likes of Trina and Lil Kim, the Delaware-born artistry knew she’d be a success early on. Although Suki grew up in one of the most dangerous cities in the States, performing arts like dance and acting found a perfect fit for her. It wasn’t until twelve-years-old when Sukihana moved to Atlanta, a place she describes as having abundant opportunity. “Everyone supports each other, it’s very common that black women own businesses so I love it here,” she states.

In 2017, Suki rose into triumph with her single “Kodak Snack” as well as her appearance alongside Cuban Doll during 2018’s Rolling Loud. Since then, it’s been nothing but upwards for the Atlanta emcee. From her viral hit “5 Foot Freestyle” to appearances on Love & Hip-Hop: Miami, Suki plays for keeps and stakes are high.

Now, a mother of three, Suki continues to outwork her competition not only for herself, but for her children as well. “I know that day will come where I’ll have to explain my lyrics to them, but hopefully by that, I’ll be transformed into what I want to be,” she points out. She tends to fly a lot, having to perform by night and be a mother by morning. Recognizing it’s for a greater cause, Sukihana unremittingly grinds. Furthermore, Suki spoke on hopes of acting in movies and having her own show amongst other things.

Accompanying Sukihana is none other than her mom, who is also her manager. “She’s going to always make sure that everything is good and that I don’t move out of emotion,” Suki states. Not only is her mother there to prevent any bad business, but Sukihana emphasizes the importance of artists being able to trust people within their circle. “The good thing about it is that she has my back.”

Elsewhere, I spoke with Suki about being a television star and what happens when the cameras stop rolling. “As the cameras go off, I’m getting back to work,” she responded. Whether it’s on camera or not, her personality remains the same. She’s a fun, relatable gal that will always lighten up the mood when around company.

Earlier this year, Suki took over social media with her #AllInYourThroat challenge. The fun, yet raunchy challenge arrives paired with her “All in Your Throat” music video. Since its release, the video has amassed a quarter-million views while her challenge is almost at a million. “I just gave the ladies a chance to show me their throat skills, have fun. It’s just a way for me to interact with my fans,” she states.

The challenge caught a liking from celebrities as well. Fellow Atlanta native Summer Walker and Rico Nasty are just a few of the notable names embracing Sukihana. “Summer Walker is my girl, I just flew to Vegas to have sushi with her,” she recites. “I love Rico Nasty! It makes me happy to see other celebrities reach out to me, but I feel like I’m that girl.”
