Famous Dex is one of the most unique personalities in Hip-Hop today. The riveting artist has built a strong brand since the unfortunate passing of his mother, Diane, in 2015. The Windy City is home to many of the industry’s brightest stars. Many have come and went since Dex dropped his debut tape Dexter’s Laboratory. Consistency in his music and connection to his fans has helped the Rich Forever star remain.

Today, Dex is now a 26-year-old father of three and a triple-platinum musician. He’s awaiting the release of his highly anticipated album featuring the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, and label boss Rich The Kid. He’s excited to let his fans hear his single “What I Like” that he is sure will go crazy on streaming platforms. I attended college during Dex’s rise to prominence, and I can assure anyone that when Drip From My Walk came out, the club always turned upside down.

When you think of modern-day Chicago, you think of drill, and Dex was able to bring a different side of the city out in his music. With so many rappers coming out every day, five years in the game will make you a veteran and extremely battle-tested. Famous Dex has been through more than most. There were many times where people thought he would not make it through. Thankfully, Famous Dex is standing firm and ready to deliver the best work of his career so far.

Our conversation will give his fans a glimpse into who Dex is today and what he has learned so far on the roller coaster ride that is the music industry. Check it out below!

Famous Dex latest visual for “Proofread” featuring notorious stoner, Wiz Khalifa is doing excellent on YouTube. When asked if he was switching to a different sound, he said that his main focus at the moment was showing another side of himself while still keeping the essence that his fans fell in love with. The Virgo connection between him and Wiz helped them come up with an extremely smooth single.

Amid all of the COVID-19 shutdowns, Dex’s recording process has changed drastically. Luckily, he has recorded most of his projects already. The virus is just another obstacle to Dex. He has been through just about everything you can go through as a young adult. He is hopeful that all of this will end soon so he can get back on the road. Dex feels blessed because he could never have imagined songs his music going gold and platinum. Today he is -like his smash hits JAPAN & Pick It Up. Dex exclaimed that “growing up in Chicago, you feel like you will end up either dead or in jail.” Therefore, his success is a blessing but most definitely a pleasant surprise.

Influences are a massive part of any musician’s career.

Wiz Khalifa, he’s one of my favorite artists of all time. I’ve been looking up to Rich [The Kid] since I was first coming up, and one day, he told me, “we’re gonna be Rich Forever,” and ever since, he said to me that I’ve looked up to him. Also, Sauce Walka is one of my favorite artists. That’s where I got the “I get the drip from my walk” from. When I was coming up on the music, that was one of my favorites, not me as a kid but me coming up as Famous Dex“.

All of these influences show in his music from 2015 to now. His next project shall be no different as he looks forward to showing his growth as an artist. Like many, his most significant influence is his late mother, Diane. Dex let me know that his favorite song on the album is the song that he made in memory of his late mother. The song is dedicated to Ms. Diane, who passed away from breast cancer before he started rapping. The song will most likely be the outro and is sure to be a tear-jerker for anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer.

With coronavirus being the main topic of discussion, it is hard to do anything right now. Dex mentioned that all he does is eat snacks and attempt to maintain his health. He has been spending a lot of time at his label CEO/friend Rich The Kid’s house. Dex also stated that he misses the ability to see his children as he used too. The fact that they are out of school right now concerns him. He was sure to place emphasis on the importance of education. The rapper is optimistic that the pandemic will slow down soon. He is praying that we can go back to healthy life sooner than later.

For now, check out his latest single Proofread with Wiz Khalifa below. Also, follow him on all socials at @famousdex to stay up to date on all of his moves.
